Superhero

Sweetly handsome college kid by day...

disease bearing tumor fighter by night
.

Actually this sweetly handsome college kid fights disease during the day too...all day long, every day. He spent the better part of four hours in the MRI tube this morning, checking the many tumors in his brain the the few in his spine. My guess is that all tumors are stable, judging by the lack of new symptoms, but we'll wait until next Tuesday for the final word from the good Dr. V.

Beverly:

I wrote my brother about health insurance and the 63 day lapse I wrote about on Katie's blog. Here is his response:

"Your state may have different rules, but I doubt it.
1. If he has group insurance (not student accident) he needs to get a Certificate of Prior Coverage from the schools carrier.
2. Present that COPC to the proposed carrier and as long as there has not been a break of 63+ days, they have to provide coverage under HIPAA.
I suspect that they were not covered under a HIPAA qualified health plan in college, or that they were offered coverage from the new carrier, but it was simply too expensive."

Without knowing your personal situation, my brother commented in general about the HIPPA laws. I know that a lot of insurers would not mention them to you and hope you wouldn't know them. I do pray that your son falls into the category of requiring insurers to insure him under these laws.

May you and your family have a blessed holiday and a wonderful new year. From the little I have read on your blog, your family sounds amazing and your son is a very accomplished and determined and gifted young man. May the miracles of the season shine down on you.
